Flame Shock?

Guess Posted on BigHitBox.

I thoroughly enjoy to theorize about things and then test them out. So here goes!?
There have been a few updates to the Shaman class on the PTRs

Elemental

Flame Shock now deals 834 Fire damage over 18 sec at max rank. (Up from 556 fire damage over 12 sec) Lower ranks increased accordingly.

Lava Burst no longer consumes Flame Shock.

Enhancement

Earthen Power changed to : Your Earthbind Totem’s pulses have a 50/100% chance to also remove all snare effects from you and nearby friendly targets, and your Earth Shock reduces enemy attack speed by additional 5/10%.

Glyphs

Glyph of Flame Shock – The periodic damage dealt by your Flame Shock can now be critical strikes. (Old – Increases the duration of your Flame Shock ability by 6 sec and it is not consumed by casting Lava Burst.)

What does this mean?

Clearly the Earthen Power is for PvP. From my small amount of time in PvP, I find that Enh does fairly well against casters (Grounding Totem, Wind Shear.) However, we have some trouble with melee, so this is their way of improving that.

All of the other changes listed are a clear improvement for Elemental Dps, they still need their glyph, but the glyph increases dps instead of just allowing them to do their “rotation”.
– – For any ele’s reading this, if you have you 2p-t8, once this hits live you will be able to drop the Glyph of Flame Shock and fill it with any benficial glyph you may be missing (Lava, LB, ToW.)
I think this could change things for our Enhancement rotation.
– – *whispers* “I’ll let you guys in on a secret I have always wanted flameshock to be in our rotation, and even LvB to be implemented into MW (like it was in the beta of WOTLK)”
Basically I do apologize to the readers that I do not have more FACTUAL math, but I have visitors over currently.
Regardless (follow me here)

Old Comparison

500+556=1056 (Flame Shock)(12 seconds)
500+834=1334 (Flame Shock)(18 seconds)
895 (Earth Shock)

This simple comparison would have made anyone choose FS, the problem arises though that DoTs cannot crit, only the upfront damage of 500 could crit and heavy math has shown that regardless ES trumped FS. Except that FS does scale with Spell Power buffs far better than ES (again lack of fact here).
Also we have to lose a glyph just to accomplish the extra damage which STILL cannot crit.

New Comparison

500+834=1334 (Flame Shock)(18 seconds)
895 (Earth Shock)

Without glyphing this we are still sitting in the same spot, no crittability (word?) on the DoTs. I am totally flailing my arms here (stole that from GC) but I believe that with a glyph (which may become ideal) our rotation/priority could change to allow the usage of FS.
– – Only listing the shocks here

FS -> ES -> ES -> FS -> ES -> ES -> FS

Rinse and Repeat
Not only would this allow more variance/skill in our priority, it would also allow for those certain breaks in some fights for LvB to be used more easily. I am thinking Malygos phase 1 for that short time she is in the air and it becomes a caster dps slap fest.

I’d like to hear everyone’s thoughts on this possible change and how you think it would affect you?
